We finished planting later than we would have liked because of the wet weather this year. There is still potential for high yields, though, as long as the weather cooperates.
...SNOW?! A record breaking snow fell last night and this morning. Obviously, planting is on hold right now.
We are 30% done with corn and 15% done with soybeans. We want to resume planting as soon as possible since yields start to suffer with crops planted after around May 10.
This cover crop has protected the soil all spring from erosion. We sprayed it to kill it and will now plant soybeans once the weather permits.
We planted two of our three test plots. The first plot is an experimental plot with Monsanto's next possible corn hybrids. The second plot included current hybrids on the market from various companies. When the weather cooperates we will be planting a Fieldscripts plots for DeKalb.
